Tynedale deliver 11-try hammering to Stourbridge

Tynedale increased their top-four National One credentials with an 11-try Stourbridge hammering in Corbridge yesterday.

Jamie Murray, Jack Harrison and Hamish Smales all grabbed a brace of tries, while Ben Marshall, Joe Graham, Gavin Beasley (pictured), Harry Peck and Andrew Hall completed the scoring.

The 71-14 victory pushed Tynedale up to fourth in the National One table, and continued their unbeaten 2010.

Despite resting several key players Tom Borthwick's men still dispatched their powerful visitors without issue, and the manner of the win leaves Tynedale primed to push even further towards the league power brokers.

The hosts only needed 10 minutes to rack up the four-try bonus point, and never slackened their pace in the quest for a superlative win.

Tynedale steal a win from Cambridge

Paceman Charlie Ingall plundered a last-gasp try to steal Tynedale a win from right under Cambridge's noses at Grantchester Road.

Ingall's dramatic last-minute score guided Tynedale home to a 20-17 National One victory, with Gavin Beasley landing the conversion to rub salt into the wound. Cambridge had barged into a two-try lead early in the second half thanks to scores from Ben Cooper, Toby Berridge and Gareth McComb.

But Tynedale came storming back thanks to a late score from Joe Graham, and then that match-stealing Ingall effort.

Phil Belgian's early penalty and a try for Dom Shaw had kept Tynedale just about in sight of their high-flying hosts, but it was that late flurry that turned the tide and secured the points.

But a momentous day in the village's annals had slipped away before being rescued by Newcastle United historians Paul Joannou and Alan Candlish.

As football gained a foothold in the North East in the 1870s, Corbridge emerged as one of the stronger sides.

And in November 1880, Corbridge became the first visiting side to win at St James' Park in Newcastle, then the home of one of the city's first clubs, called Rangers, by a 2- 1 scoreline.
